It doesn’t exactly turn Risk into an Avalon Hill game or anything, but it keeps things way more interesting than the Classic ever was.īut the cherry-on-top is the presentation, which is fantastic.
There’s also additional objectives you can try to accomplish that will allow you to win without taking over every territory. but they’ve added a bunch of strategic elements like capitals and mines and missiles to the board that can give bonuses to battle. The basics are still there - replenish armies at the beginning of the turn, roll dice to see who wins, etc. Oh, sure, you can play Risk in it (which is now been labelled the ‘Classic’ version), but the real game is this new Factions version, which I gather takes it’s mechanics from a 2008 redesign of the board game. I downloaded this on a whim last night because it was getting some rave notices in some of the podcasts I listen to, and guess what? It’s awesome.
